E. Wilder Farley was born in Newcastle, Lincoln County, Me., in 1817. Served as member of state house of representatives, 1843, 1851-1853; and U.S. representative from Maine 3rd District, 1853-1855. He was defeated in 1854 and returned to Maine state senate in 1856; served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Maine in 1860. Died in Newcastle in 1880.
